five nights of peace and calm

Greetings to Uncle & Aunty (Mr & Mrs Agarwal)

My wife, my daughter and myself stayed at Sunrire Villa from the 29th Dec 2009 till the 3rd of Jan 2010. Five nights of peace and calm and a lot of happines.

We had an excellent time there and we were very sad when it was time to leave.

Aunty,s personel attention to our food requirements, Uncle’s guidence in travelling around the place was simply awesome.

The location of Sunrise Villa is excellent, the view is breathtaking, and watching the sun rise every morning is an experience of a lifetime.

The food is simply mouth watering and the pickles are an addiction.

My daughter and wife were simply amazed with the plants and flowers in the garden.

The two servants Narian and Shyamlal are really good human beings, they took care of all our needs with a smile on their faces.

The best part is the secure feeling at Sunrise Villa. You dont feel you are out of home, it seems that you are at home always.

Even when you go around sight seeing on you way back to Sunrise vill you feel that you are returning home.

We feel that Sunrise Villa is our second home in Shogi.

We are already planning our next trip to Sunrise Villa hopefully before the end of this year.

Thanks a lot Uncleji and Auntyji for the warm hospitality that was shown to us during our stay, just waiting to come there again

Best wishes

Colin Irene and Reena

Jute, cotton bags are in as Shimla says goodbye to polythene bags

October 2 2009

Jute and cotton bags are back in demand as Himachal Pradesh gets ready to say goodbye to non-biodegrable polythene bags.

In 1999, Himachal Pradesh was the first state to ban recycled colour polythene bags. All kinds of polythene bags are currently banned in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Chandigarh. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said traders had been given more than one and a half month’s time to switch over to biodegrable bags. “I appeal to citizens and traders to create awareness about the need for discarding harmful polythene bags and use only cotton and jute bags—now easily available in the markets.

In fact, a few days ago traders met him in Dharamshala and told him about the availability of sufficient alternatives to polythene,” he told mediapersons on Thursday. Initially, the ban was to come into force on August 15, as per a Cabinet decision taken in June 2009. Opposing the decision, traders had met the CM and asked for a month’s time to exhaust their stock of carrybags.

Coffee table book to toast good old Shimla

Shimla, Dec 2 (IANS)  Those nostalgic about the good old times in Shimla should be delighted. Coming up is a coffee table book detailing the history of this city that was a seat of power in British India. “We are bringing out a coffee table book carrying details about eminent personalities and imperial buildings associated with the British era.

This will also help tourists, especially from Britain, to know the heritage of the town,” Tourism Director Arun Kumar told IANS. He said most of the tourists have been complaining about lack of information about the heritage of this town. “All prominent heritage buildings would be photographed and a brief history would be compiled. Some of the buildings or monuments that have been damaged or refurbished would be exhibited in black and white sketches in the book that will be published by March next year,” he said. The department has also requested prominent century-old institutions and private owners of historical buildings to provide details about their property.

“We have written to prominent institutions like Bishop Cotton School, St Bede’s College and Christ Church (located on the Ridge) to provide us rare documents or photographs in their possession,” the official said. The ‘Queen of Hills’, as Shimla was fondly called by the British, has 91 British-era heritage buildings. These include Ellerslie (housing the state secretariat), Vidhan Sabha, Peterhoff (which was completely renovated after being devastated in a fire nearly two decades ago and now serves as the state guest house), United Services Club, Town Hall, Barnes Court (housing Raj Bhavan), Viceregal Lodge (now housing the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies) and Gordon Castle. More than 60 years after the British left, this Himalayan town still attracts their descendants who are eager to know their roots.

Himachal Pradesh attracted 9.37 million domestic and 367,000 foreign tourists last year. Kullu and Manali are the hot spots for tourists, followed by Shimla and Dharamsala.

The state capital saw a sunny day, but cool breeze kept the mercury at pleasant level.

Elsewhere too, there was not much change in the mercury as Bhuntar recorded a maximum of 26.5 degree Celsius, while it was 17.1 degree Celsius in Kalpa, the sources added.

The Met office has forecast mainly dry weather in the state tomorrow.
